Description

Rebecca Kahane had a prophylactic mastectomy about ten years ago. Breast cancer runs in her family, so while her son was in middle school, Rebecca made the choice for elective surgery because she didn't want the chance of leaving her son without a mother.

Post surgery was difficult and painful. She is passionate as a licensed marriage and family therapist, but spending every day sitting did not help her recovery.

One day Rebecca walked into the Pilates studio around the block from her office because she liked the look of the building, the machines, and the people inside. That was seven years ago. Now Rebecca practices Pilates every week. She's even taking Polestar Pilates teacher training to give her a better understanding of the Pilates method. She cannot live without Pilates in her life. It's her preventative medicine, her recovery method, and her new habit.

I was diagnosed with the positive brocket gene, the, um, breast cancer gene. So I opted to have a prophylactic mastectomy. I started Palabra [inaudible] about a year after my surgery and there was a lot of things I couldn't do. I, you know, it's hard to lift things and I like, I'd get these shooting pains up. My, you know, around my chest and up and through my shoulder. Pilates has benefited me in so many ways, really does help me to connect to my own body. I love how platas has really helped me in my work because I become much more aware of my own body. I'm able to, to really be aware of how my clients are, you know, I can see that they're holding their breath and as soon as I say, okay, I want you to breathe. And as soon as they do that, they drop into their feelings. And I think prior to doing plots, I want to have been aware of how important it is to breathe.

Beautiful story...Pilates work attracts people, like observing "butterflies", rhythmic, fluid, whole body. Thank you for making teachers, feel greatful for how we help others find "breath in life".
