For me it is undoubtedly my study with anatomist Gil Hedley. I have participated in his 6 day dissection three years in a row, his one day lectures and his most recent two day seminar "Coming Into Form." His classes offer me a perspective that allows me to see the whole person when I am teaching privately. I easily move beyond the choreography and am present both with my client an myself. Well... I would say from a technical standpoint that studying with Madeline Black has been profound. She has brought some subtle but powerful concepts to the Pilates method from outside ... not new exercises or variations, but engagement and alignment suggestions that can make enormous differences to the client.
But for a panoramic, rock-my-world, change of perspective, I'd have to agree with Kristi that Gil Hedley's 6 day dissection course is, by far and away, the most life-changing experience I've ever had. Not only have I learned more detail about structure and function, but I have gained a new understanding that those structures cannot operate in the isolated and mechanical manner I had assumed. My new understanding of the interconnectedness of the body has led me to awaken and encourage the intuitive nature in my own body as well as others. I know less, but understand more
