Maggie Reeves
Orinda, California, USA
Once a year she hosts a Pilates party where she gives a demonstration (often choreographed to music) of Pilates for guests. In 2013, they played a game instead where she did an exercise on the Pilates Arc, and her clients had to write down the name of the exercise she was doing.
What originally motivated you to try Pilates?
After my second child was born, I knew I needed to get back into shape. I went to a new gym, and they were offering something called “Pilates Mat” with a symbol of a dancer doing a leap. I was hooked after one class.
The last thing you bought and loved?
I don’t love things I buy, although I might really like things I buy. What came to mind when I read your question was when I got our second cat, Marco, who is a big grey fluff ball, but I didn’t have to buy him. He was a rescue from the animal shelter. I loved him from the minute I picked him up at the shelter and he immediately started purring. I was won over.
In one word, describe your first Pilates experience?
Joyous.
Your favorite Pilates exercise?
Currently, it is standing footwork on the Wunda Chair.
Your favorite website (other than Pilates Anytime)?
Politico
Your favorite workout clothes?
All of them. As long as I’m not wearing a suit (I was a lawyer in my first career), I’m comfortable and happy.
How did you hear about Pilates Anytime?
I heard about Pilates Anytime from
Pilates Style Magazine.
The last song you purchased?
Like I’m Going to Lose You, by Meghan Trainor.
Do you practice a particular style of Pilates?
No, I love to explore all kinds of different movement.
How do you use Pilates Anytime?
Since I’m a solo practitioner operating from my home, Pilates Anytime has been critical for me. The various workshops you offer have been an enormous source of information to help me work with my clients. I have taken several of them, and refer back to them often. They are a wonderful supplement to the meetings I have with my mentor, in addition to the conferences I am able to attend. The classes I use for myself, but they also give me ideas for my clients. I have recommended your website to several of my clients, as well as to other instructors. Please keep going!
Do you have a motto?
Not really. I have different mottos for different situations.
The living person you most admire?
I admire my clients. Collectively, they are brave, optimistic, and they inspire me every day.
What do you appreciate most about your body?
How well it all works together.
An indulgence you would never forgo?
Lobster dipped in butter.
The book on your bedside table?
The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson by Jeffrey Toobin (I just finished watching the TV series, and I was riveted. The book is no less riveting.)
What was your most memorable journey?
My most memorable personal journey was when I transitioned from Iowa, where I had lived all of my life, to New York City, where I went to work after graduating from law school, and where I didn’t know anyone at all. That was quite a journey!
