Things started to click so amazingly for me…
As Carola talked and got me down on the apparatus… I began to feel for the first time, the animal way of moving, the instinctive way of moving from the center, from the core…
~ Judith Covan
On October 9, Pilates Anytime launched the Pilates Legacy project as part of our regular membership. We started with the biographies of the elders of the main Pilates lineages and now have the great privilege of beginning to introduce you to the teachers that came to know, love, and share the work of each of those elders.
We start with Judith Covan who took her first lesson with Carola Trier in 1958. Judith was a student at the School of American Ballet. She knew Kathy Grant, Romana Kryzanowska, and George Balanchine. Judith began teaching for Carola around 1967 and continued teaching until her retirement in 2011.
By watching this interview, you will learn more about Carola Trier through Judith’s experience, hear stories about what “teacher training” was like when teacher trainings didn’t exist, and perhaps best of all, see yourself in the reflection of her passion, commitment, and loyalty to the method she learned from her teacher.
