In 2016, the Pilates Method Alliance and Pilates Anytime conducted a poll of 930 Pilates clients, 102 inactive and lapsed Pilates clients, 243 Pilates teachers, and 230 Pilates studio owners. Nearly half of clients surveyed have practiced Pilates for six years or more
49% of teachers surveyed have taught for six or more years
60% of Pilates studio owners have owned a studio for six years or more
Where Clients are Practicing
52% of clients practice at a studio, 34% at home, and 10% at a health club or gym
47% of client surveyed take group Reformer classes, 45% take group Mat classes, 30% take privates, and 21% take semi-privates. 21% take group Chair classes
Reasons for Starting Pilates
26% of clients surveyed said a friend, colleague, or relative encouraged them to start, 14% took a free class, and 12% were referred by a medical professional
Only 2% were encouraged to start because of a celebrity endorsement
