Love listening to this! I especially liked hearing what I always tell my clients - if there was an exercise pyramid like the food pyramid, pilates is the base. Like the stuff under the carpet :)
Maybe as well as being the 'underlay' Pilates should be in Maslow's hierachy of needs in terms of being an underpinning proponent for 'accomplishment'and 'self-esteem'?! Basic training in mat pilates taught me to ask for any injuries/how my clients are feeling, but really being an outstanding teacher requires adapting my class for each and every client as a result of this - something still to refine and work on:) Thanks so much for this - you are inspiring professionals as always. With love from the UK, Sarahx
I have experienced exactly what Deborah was speaking of. It has made me so much more aware of things going on in my body that I wasn’t aware of before. I’m in my fifties now, but becoming stronger and more aligned and aware than I ever was before. I started out barely able to move around going first for private sessions, on to a group class, supplementing with a home reformer practice and now a mostly home practice with occasional visits to “tweak” things with my pilates teacher. It has given me my life back, even as I still work out different lingering problems. I am so grateful for Pilates and for Pilates Anytime!
