Hi John: well this just keeps getting more and more interesting. I am going to go back and watch another interview with Jay and make sue I have my ears wide open and take notes. Jay does say that he was in a studio when Joe was still teaching, because Joe would ask him to help people. And he has talked about Jonathan Winters as well, and Hannah. I wish I could just be there now to speak with you to discuss many questions I have. I cannot tell you how happy I am that Kristi found you. You are an invaluable source, and a really great guy. Love that you are so darn honest and down to earth. No wonder Joe too to you.
I really enjoyed listening to this interview. I've started sharing historical facts about Contrology and Joseph Pilates with my clients since watching the interview. It would be great to see Amy teach a session to John. Thank you John and Kristi- I look forward to John's book.
Kristi-amazing way of documenting and bringing Pilates history to life. This interview is captivating. How fortunate we are that John would share his recollections and PA would make it possible. Perhaps you can persuade John to film classes. It would be fascinating to see what he would do for his own reformer workout, as well as take a class. Or maybe he'd even teach one. When the book is available will there be a way to purchase signed copies? Thanks to you, John and everyone else who made this possible. And did anyone else have a 'reebok high top aerobic shoe' flashback at the mention of aerobics classes?
Wow, great discussion with John Steel, thank you! Impressive work Kristi, so much gratitude for bringing this to everyone. Sure enjoyed viewing this discussion but now I feel really bummed after reading the inaccurate commentary here about Jay Grimes.
This was an incredibly compelling sequence of videos, I watched the entire story with keen interest. Thank you Kristi and John for taking up this conversation and bringing us all "in" on a fascinating account of Pilates in-the-making~ Very cool!
I've already said thank you but I have to say it again. This is beautiful. I just love the history of Pilates. I wouldn't be where I am today without Joe, Clara and each person before me. Pinch me. I feel like the luckiest person!
Arlene, I'm not sure what commentary about Jay Grimes you are referring to exactly, but as I read it, the commentary from members seems to be a quest for more information stemming from uncertainty and curiosity rather than definitive declarations. I also think it fair to say that John Steel's commentary is as accurate as he remembers it to be for the time he was there. I had asked Mr. Grimes to be a part of Pilates Anytime pretty early on and he declined. Perhaps I'll ask again in hopes he can answer the questions himself. Thank you for the inspiration!
Hi Kristi, Thanks for asking. I wasn't referring to John Steel's commentary as he was talking purely from his experience. I was bummed by the declarative statement- 'Jay claims to have helped Clara find an apartment after Joe passed.' I'll just ask directly then, I hope you don't mind- Lynn, where did you hear of this? Are you sure about that? I'm not trying to be negative, my curiosity is peaked as well and I get saddened if it's misinformation and starts to circulate.
Thank you Arlene. I don't sense negativity from you (or Lynn). I think we all want to know more about our history. Part of the intent of this project is to give us information that allows us to look further, question and either validate or negate our own perceptions based on what we hear from those that share. I think you ask a good question and one that I believe Lynn said she was going to look into herself. In all cases, I'm so thankful that you both and others are interested in exploring more on this subject. Thanks again!
