On April 28, 2020 the much-beloved Mari Winsor, the woman who paved the road leading to our ability to practice Pilates online, made her transition back to her natural, free, and able-bodied state of spirit, free from the bondage of ALS.
Though Mari is free from the confines of her body, she will always be with us. Mari's influence on the Pilates community and her spirit of friendship shared with all of us at Pilates Anytime is everlasting. Fitness expert Mari Winsor was widely credited with popularizing Pilates and making this once-a workout accessible to the public-at-large. Mari was sought as a fitness and Pilates expert by the media. She was featured on the Today Show, Good Morning America, Oprah, WPIX-CW11, KABC, KCBS, KNBC, and KTLA and in countless magazines such as: Allure, Glamour, Family Circle, Fit Pregnancy, Health, InStyle, More, People, Redbook, Shape, Time, Us Weekly, Vogue, W, and Woman's World.
Mari studied with Romana Kryzanowska, who trained with Joseph Pilates and took over his New York studio upon his death. After one year of intense study, Mari earned her certification in the true technique of Joseph Pilates. In 1990, Mari opened her first Pilates studio in Los Angeles and introduced her innovative signature workout, "dynamic sequencing," based on techniques developed by Joseph Pilates. Soon after, the highly visible bodies of musicians, professional athletes, and celebrities began to flock to her studio to be shaped, toned, and strengthened. In 2003, Mari brought Pilates to a new level of public recognition when she released her first infomercial. The record-breaking success of the Winsor Pilates workout series and award-winning infomercials was unparalleled.
Mari was the owner of Winsor Choza Pilates. With her continuous roster of A-list clients that includes Drew Barrymore, Elizabeth Berkeley, Miley Cyrus, Minnie Driver, Daisy Fuentes, Jasmine Guy, Jewel, Melanie Griffith, Meg Ryan, Emma Stone, Sharon Stone, Marisa Tomei, Courtney Thorne-Smith, and Dita Von Teese, Mari remained the most sought-after trainer in Hollywood and a celebrity in the world of health and fitness.
